Emerging technologies present various opportunities for transforming how care is provided in our current healthcare system. These technologies are promising to reduce human errors, enhance care outcomes, and improve care coordination, among other benefits (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017). One of the most notable benefits of emerging technologies is the enhanced efficiency of electronic health records. Today, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) has certified a number of electronic health record systems, including Cerner, Allscripts, and Epic (Timmins, 2020). Such systems have revolutionized how patient information is stored and shared with key players in the industry.
Electronic health records (EHR) play an important role in improving efficiency in care provision. However, a number of ethical issues have been raised concerning the use of EHR, most of which revolves around ensuring patient safety is maintained all the time.
