Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that affects the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar levels. Diabetes can be inherited, which means it can run in families. However, even genetics can play a role in the development of diabetes, and lifestyle factors also significantly impact an individual’s risk of developing the disease. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and managing any risk factors are essential to reduce the likelihood of developing diabetes.
Siteman Cancer Center’s assessment revealed that the respondent’s risk of developing diabetes is above average. The family history and unhealthy diet were the factors that contributed to the increased risk of acquiring the disease. As mentioned above, the family health history plays a significant role in the members’ health conditions. In addition, an unhealthy diet also increases the risk of acquiring diabetes and other diseases.
