If Matthew Donnelly had not asked his brothers to kill him, Harold Donnelly would not have been justified for the action. Utilitarian grounds emphasize the action in the interest of happiness for all individuals involved in a situation (Rachels, 2003). Looking into the case, Matthew was suffering. Still, if he had not decided to ask his brothers to kill him, Harold would not be justified since Matthew would have wanted to live despite the pain he was going through. Though his brother might have thought that taking his life would make things better, the action would not be in the interest of both parties’ happiness.
