Doctrine Double Effect (Literature & Language Essay)

Essay Instructions:

a) Explain principle C, including any important concepts it appeals to.
b) Consider Fat Man and Drug. Briefly explain each case (this can be very brief, just so I know you understand the cases). For each of these two cases, explain whether principle C permits you to save the five in that case. Make sure to fully explain why you think the principle yields the judgment it does in these two cases.
c) Critically examine principle C. At least present an objection to it, even if you end up supporting the principle. I am looking for critical thinking here. Superficial comments for this part will not earn you an A on the exam, even if you ace all the prior parts.

Instructions for submission:
- You must write the exam in a Microsoft Word document and upload the document (it must be in .doc or .docx format)
- You must name the Word document first name last name midterm 1.doc (or docx) For example, "Bach Ho midterm 1.doc"
- You must include your first and last name inside the document on the top right
- Paste the exam question into your Word document and then answer each lettered part underneath that lettered part. So it will look like:
a) the exam question
your answer
b) the exam question
your answer
etc.

The pursuit of a good may result in an inevitable evil, but the action must be good, intention must be good, and the good must prevail.

In Fat Man scenario there is a trolley that can potentially kill five people. This time one is on a bridge and the brakes of the trolley have failed and the way to stop it is to throw something that obstructs it. You are standing next to a fat man and if I were to push him towards the track he would stop the trolley and die, but then save five people. T...
