When it comes to research studies, the research design is quite important. To this end, there are four types of approaches to design. These are namely the descriptive, the experimental, semi-experimental and the correlational models. However, based on the practical application of these models, the general design can be categorized into two broad groups namely experimental and non-experimental. The differences between these two emanates from the fundamental aspects that define a research. For any research to be complete and deemed full, there needs to be randomization and manipulation of a given sample called the control group.
Based on the three requirements above, the differences between these two can be quite evident. Research design is the strategy that is used to investigate a particular problem under study. It ensures that evidence is got for the solution of a problem. There are several types of a Research design, some of them are, experimental and non-experimental research designs among others. In experimental research design, the researcher can control or manipulate the Independent variables while in the non-experimental research design the researcher cannot control or manipulate the Independent variable.
Experimental Research design is a research design typically used for carrying out a classical scientific experiment as it has a scientific approach to research (Veal, 2017). This research design relies on statistical analysis to approve or disapprove a hypothesis. Examples of experimental research design are pre-experimental, quasi-experimental, and true-experimental research designs. Pre-experimental is that research where a dependent variable is observed after an independent variable which is supposed to cause change is applied on it. Quasi-expe...
