Reflect on your decision to pursue a specialty within the MSN program, including your professional and academic goals as they relate to your program/specialization.
Life will present us with numerous opportunities to make decisions that impact the direction we will take. I have had several moments to make crucial decisions in my life, and these have shifted my focus entirely.
The decision to pursue a specialty within the MSN program is big. Such a decision determines what someone will be doing either for the rest of their lives or a big part of their lives. I made the decision to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner long before I was presented with the opportunity.
Every day, news of people who have had mental breakdowns reach me. Most of the time, we tend to be on the outside looking in, especially when given mental health statistics. It does not seem personal enough for us to want to do something. So, we move on with our lives as we empathize with the people who suffer from mental health issues. However, when it hits home or when someone close happens to suffer a mental breakdown, reality dawns. Our eyes open to the problems and issues people have. This happened to me some years back. A close friend of mine took her life because she had been suffering in silence. We ignored the noticeable signs and the many distress signals she sent. I did not know what to do with the signs.
