                             CAMs Contraindicated with Current Prescriptions
CAMs are at times contraindicated or ineffective with current prescriptions. In recent years more there has been growing interest in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAMs) or traditional medicines, which are claimed to be more natural and healthier than conventional Western medicine.  However, there are potential complications when the alternative therapies cannot be used together with conventional medicine. The use of CAMs is further complicated when it has not been established the specific compound and quantity required to relieve pain (Close et al., 2014). This is important to reduce the risk of overdose and contraindications. For the current medications, the issues of contraindications, safety, adverse reactions, cautions, interactions and the mechanisms of action are considered to choose the most effective CAM therapies.
                                       CAMs Contraindicated with Diagnoses
Reliable studies testing the effectiveness of CAMs are few, compared with conventional medicines where tests are more vigorous.  Since the CAMs do not rely much on tests that are objective and scientifically proven like conventional medicine, there are cases where CAMs are contraindicated with the diagnoses (Close et al., 2014). Sometimes the use of CAMs is also associated with the side effects that had initially not been noticed, and this makes the alternative medicine less effective (Sointu, 2014). The likelihood of adverse events is higher when there is greater use of CAMs with effectively helping to treat pain.  Critical reviewed of the CAMs therapies is important when there are contraindications when using conventional medicine.

Muscle relaxants and pain relievers are non-medications to relieve the pain symptoms. When using medication, the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and analgesics are the most commonly used (Brune & Patrignani, 2015). Besides relieving the symptoms of back pain, there is the intervention of the specialists like physiotherapists, and rheumatologists.  The CAMs commonly used for back pain include herbs, acupuncture, and massage

While opioids are increasingly prescribed for patients with chronic back pain, there are mostly effective on the short action periods, but it is not clear a...
