The problem
Hundreds of thousands of nurses are assaulted daily by the patients and the family members to these patients that they are caring of. Part of the health care system culture is designed in manner that, violence towards the nurses is taken as part of the work. As such thousands of cases go unreported as the culture of violence is highly tolerated, secondly, there are no stringent measures, policies and legislation protecting the nurses from violence at their work place (Brown.edu, 2015). This affects the work performance levels, increased nurses' turnovers rates, financial costs to hospitals and satisfaction to both the nurses and the patients. As such there is need for a sustainable solution to end the violence met by nurses (Home.trc.gov.om, 2015).
Proposed solution
One of the main proposed solutions relates to the revisal of the Code Title Five Chapter 22 of the Penal Code from a Class A misdemeanor to a third degree felony, relative to violence directed towards any health care practitioner. This would form the legislative backdrop which the nurses can use to protect themselves from further assaults at their place of work. Changing the existing culture that supports violence towards nurses is also a fundamental solution. Most nurses are assaulted but the mechanisms to report are demeaning relative to the supportive culture that breeds complacency towards such cases (Brown.edu, 2015). The third solution is geared towards educating nurses on how best to avoid situations that could turn violent and what to do if the situation turn out of hand.
Evaluations mechanisms
Variables
* Nurses' turnover rate
* Perceptions of the nurses
* Nurses' educational awareness
Evaluations mechanisms
Survey the nurses turnover rates from before the implementation of the legislations and after the legislation
Relative to the fact that most of the nurses have been abused at the place of and have not had any sense of justice done, they have continually lost the faith in the legislations. Ideally, there have been any federal laws that protect the nurses from any form of violence especially in the state of Texas. In the past the penal code has only provided the nurses with limited protection, leaving them exposed to assault. At the same time most of the health care facilities have not had any fundamentally functional legislations to protect their nurses (App.leg.wa.gov, 2015). As a result the nurses have been forced to ...
