It can be challenging to find a healthcare organization that clearly states that its operations are anchored on Deming principles on waste management. However, my healthcare organization uses Deming’s guiding principles under a distinct name – lean management philosophy. Lean management suggests the idea of generating value for customers while mitigating waste and utilizing fewer resources. The healthcare organization has adopted this framework to heighten cultural transformation and deliver more efficient care that involves appraising and executing a principle-centered philosophy. The lean management style used in my organization derives from the Edwards Deming methodology. My healthcare facility’s activities are also centered on The Shingo Model for Operational Excellence – a framework derived from Dr. Deming’s principles on waste management that helped rethink management systems (Stoecklein, 2014).
