The success of healthcare organizations is highly dependent on open and clear communication among healthcare professionals as well as between providers and patients. In today’s technologically advanced world, communication technologies play an integral role in the coordination of care by interprofessional teams. According to Dixon et al. (2018), in the U.S. healthcare system that is highly subspecialized, there is a substantial need for coordination among the many levels and types of provider services (Dixon et al., 2018). Communication technologies in such a healthcare environment are designed to manage, provide access, and share information about populations and individuals. In essence, communication technologies enhance the collaboration of interprofessional teams and the result is improved patient outcomes.
