Yoga is the go-to form of exercise due to its numerous mental and physical benefits. Despite all these benefits, according to orthopedic specialists, improper execution of the different asanas leads to the four most common injuries to the wrist, lower back, knees and hamstring.Wrist pain is the primary injury suffered by yoga enthusiasts. According to Fishman, Saltonstall & Genis (2009, pp. 51-53), the injury occurs during fast-moving yoga poses as a student jumps from one pose to the other, incorrectly doing poses such as a downward facing dog or side plank, misaligning the wrist. Lower back pain is another commonly cited yoga injury. It occurs due to the rounding through the spine, making it flex the opposite way in poses such as downward dog and keeping legs straight (Fishman, Saltonstall & Genis, 2009, pp. 51-53). As a result, disc problems and lower back muscular pain develop.
Hamstrings are another body part with a high prevalence of injury during yoga. The injury occurs when one forces their legs straight when doing different poses or when hamstrings are overworked.
