1. What do you think you would have done in that situation?
I believe that patients have the freedom to make choices about what is right or wrong. In this case, I would have given the patient the large dose of morphine as ordered by the physician. I believe that the high dose of morphine could kill the patient faster, but with less pain, which could be termed as euthanasia. In my view, euthanasia should be given to patients with the medical condition that is incurable. Despite the debate about using euthanasia being endless, I believe that family members should also be involved in the process if one decides to end his life in a medically friendly way. I strongly believe that some terminal illness cannot be treated hence patients have the right to die painlessly. In this case, nurses and doctors are obliged to obey the patient freedom as stated by the nurses’ code of ethics (RN.com, 2012). I believe that the decision made by the patient’s family was the wish of the patient.
