Androgenetic alopecia is an illness influenced by an individual’s genetic predisposition because of excessive androgen response. Clinical manifestations in females and males include constant terminal hair loss on the scalp, which could manifest at any given time following puberty. Accordingly, hair loss in men is more prevalent in the frontotemporal and vertex areas. In women, diffusing hair loss manifests at the top and crown of the head, with the frontal hairline being spared (Ho et al., 2021).
Dermoscopy is an imaging test that applies to this condition. It indicates miniaturized hair and brown perihilar casts, essential in ruling out diffuse alopecia areata similar to male baldness. Laboratory tests evaluate the patient to establish iron deficiency, ferritin, and total iron binding capacity.
