CRITICAL THINKING RESEARCH PAPER ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
Critical thinking is an essential part of a person’s life. You should not only know what you believe, but what people from other worldviews believe as well. This becomes essential in sharing your beliefs with them. If you are a follower of Christ and have a Biblical Worldview, you should want to share your beliefs in a Christ-like way (1 Peter 3:15). Critical thinking can involve comparing and contrasting the beliefs of two worldviews. In this assignment you will learn and articulate how a worldview of your choice (one of four options) would answer the five worldview questions. You will also compare and contrast those responses with the Biblical Worldview response. This will build on your knowledge from the Biblical Worldview Research Paper Assignment. It will also help you to know how to do this with any person’s worldview you interact with throughout your life.
INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment you are to choose one of four worldviews (i.e., Secular Humanism, Hinduism, Buddhism, or Islam) and learn and articulate how that worldview would answer the five worldview questions. Review chapters four and five of Finding Your Worldview: Thinking Christianly about the World for content and clarity to these questions. You will also compare and contrast that worldview’s responses to the five worldview questions with how the Biblical Worldview would answer that question.

Part One: Secular Humanism
The secular humanism worldview bases its ideals on science, ethics, and philosophical naturalism. It does not rely on religious principles, faith, and common doctrines. To solve human problems, secular humanism applies compassion, critical thinking, and experience (Van Mulukom et al., 2022). Individuals who use the worldview promote values such as being responsible, being a person of integrity, and having goodwill.
To answer the question of origin, secular humanists believe that the start of life is not breathtaking. Human life originated from years of advancement, as seen in the evolution theory (Van Mulukom et al., 2022). The theory of creation does not make sense according to secular humanists, who believe religion is an expression of human fear. Science is an essential explanation behind the trace of humanity and all universe. The big bang theory is highly assimilated into secular humanism, which is primarily believed to be the cause of human life (Van Mulukom et al., 2022). In addition, intelligence, science, and human feelings are applied as answers to questions revolving around problems with human life.
The perception of identity according to secular humanism is that humans are creatures who have attained impeccable development. They are continually seeking truth by consistently applying perception and tests (Schnell et al., 2021). According to this worldview, man originated from animals and is therefore not above them. Man is therefore expected to treat all creatures and animals with great regard. Secular humanists perceive humankind as unique and essential, such that they possess more rights as compared to animals (Schnell et al., 2021). Furthermore, they are equipped with the ability to make decisions that may alter animal habitats.
Secular humanists perceive the meaning and purpose of existence as scientific. The worldview implies that when humans find and seek solutions to fundamental human questions, they adopt scientific judgment, reduce inequalities in human behavior, and find the motivation to work hard so that they may advance the world to a better position (Copan, 2017). Living a productive and meaningful life is the responsibility and ultimate principle of all secular humanists despite not believing in the afterlife. According to secular humanism, human beings are expected to live their lives while being practical in every venture they choose to undertake.
On morality, secular humanism believes that man makes all ethics and morals. It is the responsibility of all human beings to decide on what is wrong and what is right. Therefore, human beings have the freedom to make choices and change them depending on their perception of right and wrong (Copan, 2017). In most cases, society as a whole defines morality and sets the consequences of acting immorally. For instance, in America, society has defined that killing an innocent human being is wrong; therefore, people walk by that standard.
On the question of destiny, secular humanism believes that everything on earth has a start and an end, including human life. Secular humanists d...
