When a blood artery is blocked or ruptured, the flow of blood to specific areas of the brain is cut off, resulting in a stroke. It is accompanied by weakness or numbness on one side of the body, face, arm, or leg. Another sign of a stroke is loss of vision, trouble speaking, and poor comprehension (Khaku & Tadi, 2021). Because of these, stroke tends to affect the patient and everyone around them. Patients experience difficulties in basic day-to-day tasks which affect the lives of those around them as well because they require assistance almost 24/7. Stroke patients experience a sharp decline in their quality of lives, and this can also cause mental health issues which will require the patients to get constant psychological support on top of pain management interventions after they have the stroke (Hartley et al., 2022).
These difficulties experienced by patients and their families emphasize the critical role of nurses in caring for post-stroke patients. The psychological and emotional needs of a patient are supported by nurses. Since nurses provide daily care, they are able to interact directly with the patients and their families. Their duties include patient education as well as emotional support. When it comes to ensuring that a patient's health is enhanced, nurses have a lot of duties. People who have had a stroke are often weak and impaired. Therefore, it is important to take good care of them to prevent further harm.
