Policy Brief: Climate Change and Health
Climate change is a critical health issue that heavily impacts different individuals in contemporary society. It refers to an alteration in the weather patterns and temperatures that jeopardize human health (Solomon & LaRocque, 2019). Climate change can be associated with human health and interactions in the environment. The environment is a critical aspect since the different human populations share it. Due to such interaction, policies that define environmental health are necessary. It is the key role of the government to establish and review different policies necessary for health promotion. American clean energy and security act is a key policy that moderates climate change by limiting greenhouse gas in the atmosphere (Larsen & Heilmayr, 2009). The policy limits manufacturing firms from increased greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. The policy brief addresses climate change as a health issue and its impacts on the healthcare delivery system.
Description of the Policy Health Issue
Climate change is a policy health issue due to the adverse impacts on the population. The common population affected by climate include pregnant women, adults, and children. The issue results from extreme climatic pressure and adverse changes in the atmosphere. The issue occurs at the local, state, and national levels since it affects the different populations. For instance, it caused 1,300 deaths annually (APHA, 2021). Increased gas emission in the atmosphere pollutes the air and water; therefore, humans may experience different diseases and infections when they interact with such an environment. Common diseases likely to be experienced include heart problems and respiratory diseases. Gasparrini et al. (2017) identified that the effects of climate change are extreme, causing deaths and fatalities. The government must adjust or alter the environment's policy for successful climate change management. The main issue is the problematic policy which does not address significant health concerns. Therefore, climate change is a policy health issue resolvable by accurate policy adjustment.
Problem Statement
Climate change is a critical problem that alters weather patterns within a specific time. Human beings are naturally created, and environmental alteration interferes with normal body functioning since they cannot withstand extreme body functions. For instance, extreme temperature alters normal body stability and growth, posing a critical threat to humans. Therefore, there is a need to address the problem at local, state, and national levels to restore the health of different populations.
Suggestion for Addressing the Health Issue
The key solution is adjusting the policy to allow the government to regulate climatic changes by conducting a national assessment. The assessment would allow the government to identify specific climatic changes and their impacts on the population, thus encouraging standardization. Standardization of activities such as...
