Chinowsky, P., C. Hayles, A. Schweikert, N. Strzepek, K. Strzepek and C.A. Schlosser (2011), Climate change: Comparative Impact on Developing and Developed Countries. Chinowsky and his counterparts decided to develop a study that sought to highlight climate change’s impacts on both developed and developing countries. The topic is the comparative impact of climate change, and from this, one gathers that the researchers will simply compare how both sets of countries cope with the changes in climate and the impact of the changes. There was a firm belief in the notion that the increased climatic or climate-related events result from climate changes and not simply changes in the weather.
The researchers sought to examine the differences in the impact that both developed and developing countries face on the methodology. There is a staunch belief that climate change affects developed and developing countries differently. Therefore, the researchers conducted an analysis of ten countries that have different income levels. The aspect that the researchers focused on was paved and unpaved roads as the tool that fuel development, especially in developing countries.
Even though the paper was quite solid in presenting the differences in how climate change impacts developed and developing countries, it was limited because of its focus on a single infrastructure element. This was a major limitation to the paper and reduced its credibility to a great extent. While paved and unpaved roads are a key indicator of growth and opportunities for growth, a focus on the same while assessing climate change seems off.
In their conclusion, the researchers aptly indicated that developed countries will always be a step ahead of developing nations. They note that the opportunity cost for developed countries is far greater than that of developing nations. This leads to the notion that developing countries will have a tougher time to offset or deal with the climate change issues the world is currently facing and is likely to face in the future. This work aptly fits my topic because it offers knowledge on why developing countries will lag behind in their pursuit to close the wealth gap and fight climate change. Therefore, it will be part of the sources I will use.
U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. (2021) [Online]. Climate Change and the Developing World: A Disproportionate Impact. Available from: /blog/climate-change-and-the-developing-world-a-disproportionate-impact/ [Accessed December 10, 2021]
This source has a telling title that gives away the article’s focus. From the title, it is clear that the source will be assessing how climate change leads to disproportionate impact, especially on developing countries. One statement made in the introduction section of the paper that helps to indicate that climate change is impacting the entire world is that 2020 was the hottest year recorded. Such a statement applies to the entire world and showcases that the source does acknowledge that climate change is a global issue.
The source ...
