The greatness of God can be seen in the four themes of Christian narrative – the creation, the Fall, the redemption, and the Fall. These describe the character of God and His nature towards His creation. Through these narratives, Christians were able to understand more about the world and its history via its biblical context.
The story of creation began and ended with God. God already existed even before anything else. Then God – who is kind, wise, and powerful – created the universe in His whole perspective. He created correctly first the world, the living creatures in it, and all things that humankind will need to survive and, at the same time, enjoy to ensure man’s safety, comfort, and contentment. Then, He proceeded to create man in His image to be stewards and to rule over His creation. All these living things are brought to the world to enjoy fellowship with one another and establish a community that worships the living God. It shows here how caring and loving God is with His good intentions, making sure that man will be safe from all the harm and danger (Stetzer, 2012).
The period of Fall started when Adam and Eve decided to eat the forbidden fruit as tempted by the serpent. This event was known as the first act of disobedience towards God. When God created humankind, He put them in a paradise where they can enjoy His creations with a small restriction to remind humanity with its reliance and obedience to God. With their rebellious choice, the feeling of shame, blame, and separation emerged into the world of creation. This was the moment when man started choosing his “self” and sinned against God when they disobeyed God’s commandments. Despite knowing already what Adam and Eve have done, God gave them the chance to confess and repent. This delayed justice only shows God’s patience in desiring for humanity’s repentance. However, their actions continued to show neither confession nor repentance but blame. The consequence of humanity’s separation from God resulted in suffering, illness, dispute, corruption, agony, and ultimately death (Schmucker, 2017).
