There have been numerous efforts within hospital settings to increase patient safety and these have called for cultural, systemic environmental, and organizational changes to reduce harm to patients. Disclosure of potential errors like medical errors is one of how patient safety can be enhanced because more disclosures will result in fewer errors (Kalra & Entwistle, 2015). According to Tsiga, Panagopoulou, and Montgomery (2017), medical errors could be examined through effective reporting and disclosure system since medical-error reporting and analysis have been systematically employed in improving patient safety. Examining medical errors goes beyond identifying the error to include the causes of the event. In their study, Tsiga, Panagopoulou, and Montgomery (2017) have found a strong association between reported by nurses and surgeons to burnout. Therefore, burnouts do impact the occurrence of medical errors.
