Michael and Jackie ask their nurse what they can do to help their baby. They say that their friends suggested that they massage the baby but are afraid to do so because they might “hurt the baby” because “she is a preemie.” They ask Nurse Brian to massage the baby.

Infant massage is standard in Asia and Africa. Infant massage has been shown to have remarkable benefits for the baby. It enhances a baby's body movement and limb coordination (Oceguera & Vejar-Barbosa, 2018). Also, it aids with digestion, helps the bay relax, and sleep. Pediatricians recommend infant massage because it is a proven way of caring for the baby. In many cases, parents are afraid of massaging their babies for fear of harming them. However, by requesting help from your local pediatrician, parents can learn how to massage their babies. This paper explores Mr. and Mrs. Jones's case and how Nurse Brian might respond to their request to massage their baby. Also, what Nurse Brian might recommend that they integrate into their infant massage.

Nurse Brian might respond by offering to massage Mr. and Mrs. Jones' baby. Showing care and compassion is one of the critical elements of being a nurse (Moyse, 2009). As such, it would be Nurse Brian's obligation to act in the family's best interests. By choosing to massage the baby, Nurse Brian could also use the opportunity to teach Mr. and Mrs. Jones how to massage the baby. A nurse also plays the role of an educator (Moyse, 2009).
