Introduction

The effective utilization of EHR can enhance care outcomes as well as streamline the transition of care and proper management of emergency conditions. During the implementation stage for the health information system, healthcare organizations have numerous options to integrate EHR Alerts in the workflow. This is essential for clinical decision-making and ensuring that all stakeholders can access pertinent information whenever they need it. The most critical clinical alerts that can be prioritized include admission, discharge, and transfer. In the business aspect of the healthcare organization, Clinical Alerts in the EHR system usually reduces costs and minimizes losses in the business. Implementing clinical alerts into the EHR system increases screening rates, simplifying specialty referrals, and improving chronic disease treatment and management for the population (Kate, 2018). Clinical alerts are parts of a clinical decision support system. Clinical decision support (CDS) is a significant tool that utilizes technological advancements, as well as traditional contrivances. The latest technological discoveries paved a way to an efficient system known as the clinical decision support system (CDSS). CDSS was established to maximize the advantages of electronically documented records (Wasylewicz & Scheepers-Hoeks, 2019). Also, it has been used to aid health care providers. Furthermore, it is used to minimize medical errors and to prevent future ones (AHRQ, 2019). CDSS is a promising system that helps health care management in terms of efficiency and reduction of medical errors.

Problem Statement

Since many hospitals lack proper clinical alerts system  integrated into the EHR system, there has been an increase in adverse care outcomes, admission and discharge challenges, and prescription problems. The problem affects patients and the organization, leading to poor health outcomes and losses. In order to warrant effectiveness in the healthcare system, clinical alerts will be installed in the EHR system to streamline the clinical processes.

Importance of Problem Statement

​            Problem statements are usually utilized in the business context to execute procedures for improvement of the business. Notably, it offers stakeholders with insights into the prevailing problem to warrant proper decisions. With proper decision-making within the organization, patient outcomes will be enhanced, and losses minimized.

The alerts are beneficial because they provide reminders on prescriptions, vaccines, and even screening dates. They come in handy when patients have been referred and transferred, improving care and coordination between the teams.
Clinical alerts are right for the business as it provides many economically viable solutions. Improved health care gains the trust of the patients who are the customers, thus business advancement. The business aspect of medicine has ensured quality care over the years as good is always expensive. The technology will diversify our hospital increasing revenues ensuring all stakeholders develop economically. If our hospital makes well-informed decisions on patients, then the number of admissions for other patients increases, which is an advantage for any medical business. It has reduced the mortality rates significantly, especially in times of emergencies and transfers.
