Burn is tissue damage due to heat and overexposure to radiations such as sun, chemical, or electrical contact. Burns are accidental and can be minor or life-threatening, depending on the burn's height. They are classified into three; First-degree ( superficial), second-degree ( partial-thickness), and third-degree ( full-thickness) burns. Minor burns can be treated at home. Further, the burn treatment depends on the burn's location and the damage's severity or degree. According to American Burn Association ( ABA,2015), 450,000 people are medically treated yearly, while 3500 individuals are fatally ill. This means that burns are common, especially in young children. Burns result in risks such as sepsis (a bacterial infection that may result in bloodstream infection), hypovolemia ( fluid loss), hypothermia ( extremely low temperature), and breathing complications caused by breathing hot air or smoke. Also, severe burns can result in death.
Notably, signs of burns include white/black skin, blistering, pain, peeling of the skin, and swelling, depending on the degree of burn. Essentially, to treat a first-degree burn, an individual can run cool water over the burn, and for sunburn, an individual can apply aloe vera.
