1) Analyze the bone remodeling process and the minerals involved in that process.
Bone remodeling consists of the bones being subjected to a continuous renewal process and repair where there are bone formation and resorption (Marieb & Smith, 2016). The process occurs when osteoclasts remove the mineralized bone, and then there is the formation of the bone matrix as osteoblasts become mineralized. Osteoclasts are responsible for bone dissolution, and demineralization and osteoclasts are activated based on mechanical stresses in the skeletal structure. Osteocytes, osteoblasts, and osteoclasts are involved in the bone remodeling process where the osteocytes remove and replace the surrounding calcium salts among adults (Marieb & Smith, 2016). Remodeling allows the skeleton to adapt to mechanical stresses.
2) Distinguish among the twelve common bone markings and provide examples of in which bones and locations those markings are found.Bone markings (surface features) are classified into openings, projections, and depressions.
Crest - Prominent and narrow projection or ridge of a bone. For example, ampullary crest, iliac crest, nasal crest and frontal crest.
Facet - Flat, small, smooth-surfaced areas and the rib facet is an example.
Fissure - A narrow hole or groove often located between bones, through which blood vessels, nerves, and ligaments pass.
Foramen-This is a round or oval opening through a bone such as the foramen of the vertebrae.
Head – This is a spherical joint prominence supported by a bone's neck, and it is the upper part of a bone structure. For example, the head of the femur or leg bone.Line- This is a bony ridge but less prominent than a ridge such as a femur's linea aspera.Process- This is any marked bony prominence such as the olecranon process of the ulnaMeatus- This is a long tubular (tube-shaped) opening or channel within a bone example the external auditory meatus (Marieb & Smith, 20160.Spine- This is a sharp and slender projection and one example is the scapula's spine.Ramus- This is the armlike ...
