Health is wealth. Indeed, eating meals with high levels of saturated fat increases the amount of cholesterol in blood vessels. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends that a person should not eat beyond 13 grams of saturated fat daily (American Heart Association, n.d.)). Saturated fats are found naturally in foods from dairy products, meat, and animal sources. Their examples include butter, pork, red meat, beef fat, cheese, poultry, and lamb. Although many people think that eating food with saturated fat is bad for one’s health, research suggests otherwise.
Individuals think that saturated fat is bad for their health since it causes obesity, heart complications, and diabetes. Notably, the thing that many people do not understand is that there exist good and bad fat. The good fat is called high-density lipoprotein (HDL), while the bad cholesterol is known as low-density lipoprotein (LDL). As such, individuals perceive as if saturated fat is LDL, which means eating it is unhealthy.
An article by Harvard Medical School shows that eating a regulated amount of saturated fat is healthy. HDL cholesterol plays a significant role in removing bad fat from an individual’s bloodstream (Harvard Medical School, 2019). In other words, it lowers the risks of heart complications.
