Type 2 Diabetes Epidemiological Rationale
Diabetes is one of the prevalent, chronic and non-communicable diseases.
The disease burden caused by diabetes is high and is on a continual rise globally. The ever-increasing prevalence of diabetes is driven by the global increase in obesity and unhealthy lifestyles.
According to American Debates Association, 34.2 million Americans had diabetes in 2018 data, contributing to about 10.5% of the population.
Approximately 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year, and in 2015, 88 million Americans age 18 and above had prediabetes (Diabetes.org).
It is predicted that there will be more than a 592million cases of diabetes by 2035.
Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are the two primary types, with type 2 diabetes accounting for more than 85%) of total diabetes prevalence.
These types of diabetes can lead to multisystem complications of microvascular endpoints—these complications including retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy. The diabetic macrovascular impact includes ischaemic heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease. The premature deaths, morbidity, mortality, reduced life expectancy, and financial burden associated with diabetes creates substantial public health concern.

Imbalanced nutrition and body energy use: There is more unhealthy food intake exceeding body requirements and an unhealthy lifestyle as demonstrated by increased body mass index and uncontrolled blood sugar levels.

The preparedness to learn describes the audience's likelihood to seek knowledge and participate in the learning process or change. When implementing health promotions and prevention activities via learning, it is crucial to consider the change element where people are evaluated on their eagerness to learn and change. Learners pass through various phases when adopting or maintaining s new health behavior. During the pre-contemplative stage, an individual is not aware of the problem, and he or she is not ready to change or act. An individual can think about the change in the contemplative phase but is not yet prepared to act. In the action stage, the person can adopt new health behaviors and practices. The person can maintain and retain new health behavior as a result of reinforcement. The education on health promotion would be optimized when learning interventions rhyme with readiness.
