Organizational culture encompasses values, behaviors, and beliefs that have been practiced in a particular organization for a long time. Ordinarily, the shared values shared by the leaders influence the attitude and behaviors of other employees, and this is likely to impact the effectiveness of the works in the firm. Most often, nursing leaders are keen on facilitating the development of treatment plans, evaluation of treatment plans, and overseeing quality measures, among other duties that are aimed at promoting the quality of care offered to patients. Barriers facilitated by organizational culture make the nurse leaders powerless, and this would have adverse effects on the quality of care. Some of the obstacles that are likely to make nursing leaders imponent and incapable include ineffective work environment, hierarchical culture barriers, and psychosocial challenges.
Ideally, nurse leaders are equipped with essential knowledge that is crucial for ensuring that nurse practices in healthcare organizations are in line with a specified code of conduct, and this facilitates accomplishments. Most importantly, nurse leaders are highly concerned with promoting a work environment that is founded on professional nursing practice. Unfortunately, most healthcare organization’s environments for professional operations are not aligned with the ideal objectives of nursing professionals since, just like other corporations, the healthcare facilities are mainly concerned with increasing efficiency and promoting productivity (Manojlovich & Ketefian, 2002). This conflict of interest in the healthcare setting makes it difficult for the nurse leaders to balance between facilitating an effective nursing environment and increasing profit.
Additionally, the hierarchical culture in most healthcare organizations in structured and influences the operations of nurse leaders. There are formal standard procedures that determine how work is performed by all professionals in the organization, although the hierarchy routine is critical in promoting efficiency by ensuring that the leaders act as coordinators and manages the organization.
