Over the years, people's perceptions of vaccines and their effectiveness have influenced the rates of vaccination. It has been noted that vaccine non-compliance or vaccine hesitancy by parents and patients results from numerous reasons. The most common cause of non-vaccination is lack of knowledge among parents and patients. With poor knowledge about the importance of vaccines, people rely on conspiracies such as religious taboos. This warrants the need to educate and undertake thorough education programs for parents and patients to overcome religious taboos' lack of information (Taddio et al., 2012).
Many approaches can be adopted to enhance vaccination among people, especially communities with lower rates of vaccination. First, it is important to adopt a perspective for encouraging patients and teaching them about the importance of vaccination. Nurses have a primary role in ensuring that patients or parents adhere to the proposed treatment plan, including scheduled immunization. Adopting an encouraging and engaging style is essential and effective when dealing with the issue of vaccines. The nursing practitioners can also encourage patients by acknowledging that some of the vaccines have side effects and explain how such cases are addressed (Duval et al., 2009).
One of the ethical obligations of practitioners or healthcare providers is reporting any adverse event during the clinical processes. Whenever an adverse event occurs after the administration of a vaccine, it is the practitioner's mandate to ensure that everything is reported and all issues addressed.
