Measles is a highly infectious disease caused by the measles virus. Symptoms of measles start manifesting within ten to twelve days upon exposure to an infected person. The symptoms last for about seven to ten days. Some of the initial signs of measles include temperatures higher than 40 0C, fever, runny nose, cough, and pinky and inflamed eyes. As a public health worker, I would teach the community how to cooperate and take precautionary measures to minimize the spread and manage the transmission of this contagious disease (Gastañaduy et al., 2018). Research shows that measles disease burden and measles virus transmission can be mitigated primarily through vaccination of the vulnerable community, encouraging people to exercise social distancing, exclusion, quarantine, and isolation from the general public, and through the administration of post-exposure prophylaxis.
