Use of medical terminologies that lack any other translative or expressive ways hinders a caregiver like me to acquire historical information from a patient who does not understand the terminologies. About foreign terminologies to a client is the language barrier. For instance, a caregiver may be fluent in English and the patient, Spanish. In the quest of translating, distortion of information and medical jargons take place giving rise to poor or wrong information on a patient’s health history (Douglas, Yudin & Souza, 2017).
Patient-oriented attributes like religion and ethnic bearing also influence their level of disclosure of health information to a caregiver CITATION Cha16 \l 1033 (Halbert, 2016). For instance, I came across a patient whose religion only allowed for same-sex patient-physician treatment and refused to give me any health information. Other ethnic groupings deem giving past family health information as an abomination that would lead to the death of other family members.
