The increasing awareness of personal health and well-being accounts for a significant increase in physical activity among individuals across the social divide. Physical exercise and training have become common among members of society and cut across the age divide to include both the younger and aging populations. Trainees participate in the training programs and physical exercises to achieve different outcomes such as maintaining a healthy condition of their bodies, such as improved functioning of the heart, muscles, and lungs. Other trainers take part in such exercises and training to develop and maintain an appealing physical appearance. Achieving such outcomes call for the adoption of effective training regimens that function to address the individual needs for physical wellness. Aerobic training, for instance, makes for one of the training regimens adopted by both the trainers and trainees to help in the achievement of desired outcomes for physical wellness. Provided herein is an outline of how to design an aerobic training program for adolescents based on the 'Train the way you want the body to change' training approach.
Aerobic training among adolescents promotes faster circulation of blood in the body as it strengthens the heart while also allowing them to control their breathing by improving the lungs (healthychildren.org, 2015). Participation in aerobic activities serves to improve the adolescents' response to training as it enhances their endurance and also leads to improved performance in sporting activities. An aerobic training program design for the adolescent should build around the trainee's desired outcomes. An adolescent boy or girl who wants to their performance in a sporting activity, for instance, should participate in aerobic training activities that improve heart and lung performance (healthychildren.org, 2015). The training regime should also include activities or exercises that improve the functioning of their muscles for strength in performing their diverse sporting activities. Aerobic activities for improving sporting performances may include running, swimming, rowing, and hiking. These activities function to promote the adolescent boy or girl's endurance and response to training. However, participation in the aerobic training activities should be informed by the trainer's assessment of the trainee's baseline fitness levels and the influence of the genetic background on the performance and response of the adolescent boy or girl to the aerobic training exercises.
