Just like patients in an intensive care unit, patients who are on the long-term intravenous therapy for antibiotics or chemotherapy are said to have a central line. The core purpose of this report is to come up with a flowchart for nurses so that they can help their patients prevent CLABSI. Some months ago, a medical technique (70% isopropyl alcohol antiseptic barrier cap) was introduced in different healthcare settings with an aim to cover catheter access ports of both peripheral catheters and central catheters. According to Alicia Tucker and Christopher Trethewy, the device can act as a powerful chemical and physical barrier between the environment and the lumen, giving better and improved results (Tucker & Trethewy, 2010).
Measurement of the Progress of Workflow
The progress of workflow should be measured on a regular basis, as it can help nurses, doctor and other medical professionals work together for a common goal of preventing CLABSI in patients with the central catheter. It can also provide the most appropriate and clear evidence-based guidelines for the entire team of medical professionals.
Creation of the Flowchart
This flowchart has been created with the hope to simplify the nursing process so that prevention of CLABSI is made possible and patients are provided with treatment options for fast recovery from the illness.
