In scenario one, the premise and argument follow a deduction approach. In deduction reasoning, the conclusion of an argument is considered true based on the truth of the premise (Mosley, 2019). Therefore, the premise of scenario one is true. For instance, the major premise “all humans are mortal” is a true statement because it is generally known that all men are mortal. The minor premise “Socrates is human” is an assumption based on the major premise. Then, if all men are mortal (true), and Socrates is a man (true), then Socrates is mortal. In scenario two, the major premise “all teachers are human” is a generally known rule. However, the minor premise “Socrates is human” is not an assumption based on the major premise.
