Scenario 1: Tonsillitis
In this scenario, the child Jennifer is being suffered from tonsillitis. This acute tonsillitis so also termed as acute sore throat, true tonsillitis and severe tonsillitis. According to Stelter (2014), all of these terminologies indicates tonsillitis of either bacterial or viral type, associated with odynophagia (painful swallowing), redness and swelling of the tonsils, an occasional tonsillar exudate, fever, and cervical lymphadenopathy. These factors have also been highlighted by Worrall (2011), who performed a study on acute sore throat on children. It was signified in this study that children diagnosed with sore throat or tonsillitis were presented with a high temperature (>38°C), tender glands, tonsillar exudates, and no cough. Jennifer has also been presented with an erythematous palpable and was tender when were touched on the left side. She also indicated her throat to be hurting with painful swallowing. Her temperature was also high (102.80F), with an increased heartbeat and respiratory rates. All this has been on account of immune adaptations of her body to the foreign agent that has triggered the process of tonsillitis. Empirical treatment of tonsillitis can be initiated after performing throat culture in order to identify the bacteria that have been causing tonsillitis.
Second Scenario: Dermatitis
In the second scenario of Jack, the diagnosis is Dermatitis that had happened as a consequence of a chemical burn. According to Al-Otaibi & M.Alqahtani (2019), contact dermatitis is the most frequently occurring occupational disease in the majority of the countries. It is the eczematous inflammation of the skin occurring when a chemical has been directly exposed to the skin. If it is due to an irritant, then it is called as the irritant contact dermatitis, which is the most common occupational skin ailment, contributing to 80% of ICD. This can be severe or mild, depending upon the root cause that has imposed a direct toxic effect on the cellular level of the skin. Afterwards, the lipid film of the skin is removed that degrades the skin keratin, consequently releasing lysosomal enzymes, and generating an overall inflammatory response. Since Jack did not have any protective clothing while working with abrasive solvents, he got chemical burn as a result of which his skin developed an inflammatory response occurring in the form of Dermatitis. His skin has been under development of an immunologic response generated by immunoglobulin IgE, that lead to activating of serious of events making skin inflamed in the end.
