Urban Education System
This paper analyzes four readings while explaining how they relate to the current context in the education sector. These readings are: "Justifying Redevelopment 'Failures' Within Urban' Success Stories'" by Holden, Scerri, and Esfahani, the article "The Globalization of Education Policy" by Mundy, Green, Lingard, and Verger, the chapter "Getting Beyond the Script" by Jones, Torres, and Arminio and Anyon's chapter 9, "How Do People Become Involved in Political Contention," in the book "Radical Possibilities."
Overview of Readings
Holden et al. (2015) use the Docklands case study to explain the demands in an urban setting due to postmodern neoliberal capitalism. They give the history leading towards current global education policies, challenges in the system, and key actors like the World Bank and United Nations.
The third reading stresses that most students only receive schooling and experience in quantitative research (Jones et al., 2006). As a result, few students have training in qualitative research and its principles. These authors aim to change this by helping researchers through their research processes. The writers explain the need for intentionality throughout the steps and their effects on the research process. Anyon (2014) argues that political constraints and opportunities cause the claims into action regardless of the claim. In other words, these claims cause social movements by evaluating the evident and flexible degrees of dispute. Anyon (2014) explains that they can develop collective identities and action frames around social organizations and networks.
Reader's View
I agree with the views presented by Holden et al. (2015). One can use the challenges experienced in the community to unders...
