Cross-curricular teaching is one of the areas in education initiatives that I intend to pursue. It refers to a teaching strategy that allows educators to incorporate different disciplines in education as one. For instance, a science teacher can collaborate with the literature teacher, who aligns with the art teacher (Kirsten, 2019). This initiative offers teachers a creative way to develop student's knowledge, skills, and understanding while encouraging them to learn through stimulating, related topics. A study that crosses subject boundaries promotes investigations that engage student’s imagination (Sullivan, 2019). As a teacher, cross-curricular education will improve my collaborative skills. Because it entails teaching various disciplines, I will need to work with other teachers to plan and brainstorm with cross-cultural instruction. Through planning, my colleagues and I can develop a deeper appreciation of what we bring to the table based on our expertise and experiences. This collaboration can also enable me to create richer lessons for high-quality instruction across the board.
I believe the priority for this area is to improve students' ability to synthesize and analyze information by not only offering them a way to develop their knowledge, skills, and understanding but also motivating them to learn through a series of interconnected topics. Through this concept, learners develop an open mind and view things from a wider perspective (Sullivan, 2019). Students are expected to apply their collaboration to learning, which leads to excitement about further understandings and discoveries. Cross-curricular allow students to interact with each other as they dig deeper into lessons' focus. They can generate meaning, draw conclusions and make predictions based on the material (Kirsten, 2019). The consequences of cross-curricular teaching include increased motivation, genuine teamwork, new discoveries, and improved learning process.
