The current situation of COVID 19 had disrupted learning in a number of educational institutions across the world. As a way of making sure that learning activities are still taking place, different governments have focused their efforts on establishing e-learning platforms to help the young people continue with their learning activities. The New York State Education Department has done a number of initiatives to improve learning during this pandemic. The department is working together with Chancellor Rosa and the Board of Advisors to assist both adults and students in New York State. This department is working industriously to maintain important services for students from P-12 schools, universities colleges, social organizations, trained licenses and the entire New York State residents (News, 2020).
One of the ways of ensuring that education is still relevant amid this crisis is through the launch of the social media program called, Educators are the Heroes to raise awareness of the incredible efforts of New York extraordinary, dedicated educators. Through this campaign, they department would deliver major announcements such as graduations, change of courses, assessment of elementary and intermediate state education an emergency outline to reduce problems of the educationists, learners and experts in different fields. The expansion of remote learning education services has played a major role for some of the learners who are stuck in their homes. Most of them have nothing to do during this crisis and this provision ensures that they are always active and doing their best to keep up with their learning goals.
Communication during this time has also been hampered now that people are not meeting physically. The provision of communication strategies by the NYSED ensures that the stakeholders in the field of education are working together. Video conferencing is now a common way of improving collaboration since people can easily link up on the video conferencing platforms to share ideas on the state of education in NY.
NYSED has also provided further guidelines on the assessment of elementary and intermediate level state education. It announced that the cancellation of examinations and the closure of schools. Due to the closure, the NYSED decided to delay the rollout of state valuations aligned to the grade 3 to 8. During this time of closure, the schools are capable to maintain their concentration on the local school and public requirements the way they have been doing, and not to be worried about the state assessments. The department has applied for state abdications for test, responsibility, and report requirements. This has enabled the continuation of learning and prevention of leaning loss when schools are closed.
The collaboration between the NYSED and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is also commendable.
