The Professional Philosophy Statement
It is common to hear people say that "children are our future." For me, this statement carries weight and has informed my choices in career and parenthood. Because children are our future, I strongly believe that we should prepare them to be better by providing them with learning opportunities now. We should educate and nurture them because by doing so, we are making sure that the future of mankind is better while still supporting the current needs of the child. This belief has been the foundation of my professional beliefs and values about early childhood education.
One of my professional beliefs is that early childhood education is essential in shaping our children's future. Early childhood education ensures that children at each stage of growth achieve their developmental milestones. As Britto et al. (2017) reveal, the ability of children to reach their developmental potential depends on the education they receive, among other things. Thus, early childhood education is a basic service centered on the values of fairness, respect, love, and appreciation of the uniqueness of each child. Another professional belief I hold is that early childhood education should support the child as a whole. Haslip and Gullo (2018) refer to this as holistic child development, where early childhood educators focus on the psychological, physical, social, and emotional development of the child. This can indeed help create a better future where these children will turn into well-rounded, responsible adults.
