The Montessori and Traditional Education Approach
The Montessori-style education approach focuses on children and believes that they should not be forced to learn. The style suggests that children pose a natural interest in learning, evidenced by how they train themselves on simple things such as walking before attending classes (Meinke, 2019). In the Montessori-style approach, younger children usually learn from older children. The style was invented by an Italian psychiatrist called Maria Montessori. It promotes children’s independence and stresses their natural social, physical, and psychological development. On the flip side, the traditional education style states that children require good grades for proper learning. The system entails teaching students with the same curriculums, providing guidance, and monitoring progress at a specific expected rate. Also, the style allows students to study multiple items of interest and provides a platform for them to interact with children of various ages (Tularam & Machisella, 2018). The approach mainly focuses on memorization, where teachers teach while students take notes and later get tested on the subject matter.
