Dear Editor,
I am a resident of Arizona, and I am writing to support the case for increasing the average per school spending in Arizona.Increasing school funding and per-school spending will likely improve students' achievement when there is a clamor for budget cuts. School budget costs disproportionately affect low-income children, and teachers are left with huge workloads and teach in overcrowded classrooms. One of the reasons for the achievement gap between the high-income and low-income school districts in the latter is getting more finances. Consequently, in the low-income districts, students are left with poor weak budgets and a lack of quality education.The lack of adequate school funding is a concern as even teachers are forced to spend their own money on school supplies. The lack of adequate resources makes it more challenging for the schools, students, and teachers to be successful and further widens the achievement gap. Schools are expected to do more with limited resources, and there have been attempts to cut school budgets further. Increasing the average per-pupil spending will mostly focus on educational attainment and will likely improve the test scores in math and reading. State and local funding for local schools is crucial to improve educational attainment and increases the likelihood of low-income students earning future wages in the future.The current funding levels do not ensure equity or create opportunities, but there is also recognition that boosting funding will improve student learning and achievement.
