RE: Information Technology Legislation Proposal in Arizona Education Sector
Dear Sir/Madam,
The state of Arizona has always been among the underfunded states in the United States. There are several issues within the Arizona education sector requiring legislation. Shortage of teachers, decreased classroom sizes, inadequate technology, and underpaid teachers are some of the main challenges experienced in the state. With the increasing population, there is a need to develop the school system by increasing the budget while focusing on the student population. Arizona is one of the twenty-four states with initiatives to enhance education access among its population. In this regard, having legislation can significantly benefit the process and enhance equal education access efforts. Information technology is among the most important that can benefit students in the contemporary digital era. The recommendation is to have incentives and legislation for the state to fund and support information technology installment in Arizona schools.
Accessing public funding in the United States is complicated because it comes from the different state governments, the federal government, and local administration. Arizona is a low-income state, and the percentage spent on education is lower than in other states (Collins & Halverson, 2018). The implementation of technology comes with numerous challenges, including the shortage of equipment, lack of services, lack of expertise in handling equipment. With most classes conducted online due to the coronavirus pandemic, most students, if not all, need laptops and computers to access learning (Howley et al., 2011). If teachers and students cannot access laptops and the internet, the learning process is negatively affected.
