A point that I found important in Lisa Delpit’s article is the significant influence of cultural differences on the interpretation of directions from educators. I found it interesting how attempts by teachers to be less explicit towards students of color can be misinterpreted. With the veiled commands representing power, students of color can get in trouble for their actions when in reality they had difficulty interpreting the directions of the teacher. I think it is extremely important for teachers to understand the impact of culture on interpretations of language to address the needs of students of color.
