Culture and climate are used interchangeably to describe camaraderie in an organization. Climate often describes the shared perceptions that people have of a group or an organization. On the other hand, culture refers to the way individuals feel about an organization, including beliefs, values, and assumptions that provide the standard of behavior. It is easier to confuse the two ideas since they are intertwined and often work hand in hand. Climate can change rapidly depending on the success or failure of an event. However, culture is something that takes time to cultivate. This essay focuses on the culture and climate in Facebook, a tech conglomerate that is one of the biggest social media platforms of the last decade.
Facebook describes its organizational culture as a hacker culture that intends to push its employees to strive for improvement. The constant improvement goes hand in hand with the company’s mission and vision statements. Employees from each department are developed and maintained through specific and thorough training that ensures the company achieves its objectives of creativity and innovation. Therefore, employees need to possess skills and elements such as; creative problem-solving boldness, openness, speed, and continuous improvement in decision making. Firms will have different corporate structures that go hand in hand with the nature and goals of the company. Creative problem solving and decision making is a value that is embodied in the company’s culture. This characteristic refers to the ability of the employees to generate ideas that are unusual or improve on existing ideas. Consequently, the company maintains a competitive edge against other social media competitors in terms of social networking and advertising services. Another restated value is boldness which encourages employees to be flexible in addressing business issues.
