I read Ibram Kendi's book on How to be Antiracist from chapters 1–5. Therefore, I would like to share my experience when I was a young white girl enrolled at Roosevelt Elementary in Compton. This was from 1972 to 1980. The institution is located in a poor area, but my parent's home is in a wealthy neighborhood, where most whites reside. This elementary school had fewer black and second Mexican students than white students. The black students bullied and fought me all the time, and my black teacher was the only one who protected me from kindergarten to 6 grade. I was thankful for her efforts, and I loved her. I have seen everything from black history, and I do not understand why my parents enrolled me in that institution. Nonetheless, I went through it and succeeded.
