How Can Powerful School Culture Point Students Towards Success

Essay Instructions:

After reading the book pages (i will take epics and email ) Please answer the following:
The text for this course, Character Compass: How Powerful School Culture Can Point Students toward Success (Seider, 2012), focuses on the approaches to character education taken by three schools in the Boston area. These schools have an explicit, intentional commitment to the character education of their students. However, what makes this intriguing is that each has defined its focus in distinct ways that are having a real impact on what skills their students develop as a result of that prioritization. While it is not surprising to consider that what is taught explicitly is learned better than what is not, this puts more attention on the choices you make as a teacher. Lickona's (Lyon, 2009) assertion: “Children need to form caring attachments to adults. These caring relationships will foster both the desire to learn and the desire to be a good person” challenges one's teaching practice.
Based on your reading of the introduction to the text, as well as the chapters on the moral education at Boston Prep and Character Compass review, develop an essay response by addressing the following:
What is one idea you can or would take from Boston Prep's work to apply to your own classroom, school, or professional context? Why?
Share your experience with a teacher who took a moral approach to the character education they embodied in the classroom or in a coaching position.
An effective caregiver
A moral model; and/or
An ethical mentor
How has this teacher impacted your own practice as an educator regarding your responsibilities for character education?
What is one question you still have about teaching moral character according to the Boston Prep approach and the modeling you had?
Support your statements with evidence from the required studies and your research. Cite and reference your sources in APA style.

How can Powerful School Culture Point Students Towards Success Student Name: Professor: Course Title: Date: How can Powerful School Culture Point Students towards Success Boston Prep was established in the year 2004. It graduated its initial senior class in 2011 and 100% of them got college acceptance letters. One specific idea that I can take from Boston Prep’s work to apply to my own school is character development. This is because character development at Boston Prep is the underpinning on which the success of students here is built. This school perceives character development as the soil wherein the learning of their students takes root. The mission of Boston Prep is to prepare its learners for college. The formula for this preparation entails providing an environment that is structured around personal growth and scholarship which serves to cultivate students’ virtues of integrity, compassion, courage, respect and perseverance (Sieder, 2012). Nearly all aspects of the school day at Boston Prep is centred on the aforementioned virtues, even the weekly ethics class where the learners in grades 6-12 get to learn about how philosophers like Rousseau, Aristotle and Plato understood the five virtues. The learners then utilize these perspectives in written reflections and class discussions to consider their own responsibilities and roles as learners at the school and also as community members and members of their own families (Sieder, 2012). Therefore, I will seek to apply character development in my school. This will involve creating a school environment that nurtures and promotes students’ virtues of integrity, compassion, courage, respect and perseverance among others. In addition, I will strive to develop an ethical philosophy course that will allow the students in my school to gain relevant exposure to early philosophers including Aristotle, Plato, and Rousseau. I had an experience with an educator who took a moral approach to the character education that they embodied in the class...
