Funds for District Schools comes from three main sources: State funds that comes from different revenues sources such as general Revenue (GR) Fund, Available School Fund (ASF), and other taxes; local funds from local property tax revenues; and Federal funds (Colorado Association of School Boards). The state revenues funds accounts for the largest percentage of revenue sources for the district schools with federal funds accounting for the smallest percentage. However, revenue from each of these sources have its own functions. Revenue from the state funds is used for categorical programs such as English language proficiency, transportation, career and technical education and gifted education. The federal revenue is used for specific purpose programs such as special education, assistance to districts for students who are at risk and vocational education (Colorado Association of School Boards).
