The violence in schools has not been a new trend, but has been happening since the mid-1990s, only that it has received considerable media attention recently. It is quite disheartening when such violent acts are performed by the same children that attend the affected schools. Most parents and other members of the public have been trying to comprehend the reasons behind such violent acts as it is quite puzzling.
Characteristics of School Violence Children
The core relation between children performing such violent acts has been a mystery as there have been several reasons they use for creating such violent acts. The common misconception is that video games that depict such violent acts are the primary cause. However, from recent studies and investigations by the government and other private organizations, they came to the conclusion that the behavior is mainly psychological (Doak, 2011). To begin with, a survey carried out showed that the perpetrators of such violence had a familiar character; they had extremely high senses of narcissism, egotism, and anger towards the community or even the school. The causes of such characters have been under strong debate, but the most common conclusion is the need to seek attention (Doak, 2011). Secondly, bullies from schools were characterized by the CDC as being more likely to execute such violence due to their need to show power (Doak, 2011). They continue to say that these individuals have a 61% chance of committing a crime before they attain the age of 24.
The actions of bullies have also been noted to have a lasting effect on the individuals and are mostly pronounced during adolescence, the age of rebellion.
