Step #3: Now please follow this Position Paper format in the steps below:

An emergent curriculum is a new approach that is based on the view that children learn better when the curriculum experiences account for their needs, strengths, lived realities, and interests. Educators who follow the philosophy rely on observations as a way of coming up with content for curriculum. This supports the development of meaningful learning opportunities that encourage the development of specific skills to a particular age group (Copple & Bredekamp, 2009). The alignment of curriculum material with social realities and individual interest acts as a means of validating all types of diversity and supports passion for learning.
Argument
In the emergent curriculum, both the children and adults have initiative and are involved in making decisions. The power to influence the direction and decisions made about the curriculum suggests that it can be a negotiation between what adults know and the interests children have. Several developmentally appropriate practice principles have to be considered as part of the emergent curriculum. Several principles of the emergent curriculum can be used to understand the benefits of this approach. According to Copple and Bredekamp, (2009), the third principle suggests that planning curriculum is vital to attain important goals. The curriculum involves the abilities, skills and knowledge children are to gain, and arrangements form the learning experiences via which those benefits will arise. The curriculum helps students to attain the gals, which are educationally and developmentally important. Teachers have to consider the children’s interest when formulating curriculum so that it is effective. The second practice principle is assessing children’s learning and development (Copple & Bredekamp, 2009). Assessment is essential as part of the emergent curriculum since it helps teachers to evaluate, implement, and plan it. The information is vital to ensure that students are developing well and are gaining from the educational process. The assessment also helps in ranking the students to compare how they are performing. Stacey (2018) suggests that “emergent curriculum offers an opportunity to work with the ideas of both children and teachers, to address children’s developmental needs, and to keep play-based curriculum at the forefront” (13). Since the emergent curriculum is based on relationships – between child and teacher, among children, and within the community - we can use dispositions, prior knowledge and links around different processes of emergent curriculum, to attain a comprehensive representation (Copple & Bredekamp, 2009). Emergent curriculum is more individualized and depends on the teacher’s attentiveness and creativity towards the learners' needs. On the other hand, the traditional approach is more standardized and generalize since it comes from experts who are not within the school (Jones, 2012). This suggests that a standardized approach does not support the teacher since it limits their thinking and what they can do in the classroom.
