Step #2: Now you are going to write a three to four page paper demonstrating your understanding of emergent curriculum, application of theory, and provide an argumentative paper that includes the two following points as well as follow the paper format below.
* In your paper be sure to name 2 examples of Developmentally Appropriate Practice principles specifically from #2 and #3, from pages 17 through page 21 of your textbook called Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8 by Carol Copple and Sue Bredakamp. You must look through the principles of #2 and #3 and select it with corresponding letter that best fits your argument in your position paper
* In your position paper make sure to explain importance of cultural diversity and its implications for early childhood programs.
Step #3: Now please follow this Position Paper format in the steps below:
*Title of Your Paper Emergent Curriculum…This is the beginning of your paper. You never write the word introduction but instead use the title of your paper and it should never be in bold.
Step #4: Introduction: An introduction of your essay should present a thesis. Set the context. State why the main idea is important. State your thesis/claim. Your thesis is more than a general statement about your main idea. Your thesis needs to establish a clear position you will support with balanced proofs.
Here is an example of a thesis on a Emergent Curriculum Position Paper: Children’s interests are met when using an emergent curriculum , as teachers are flexible in meeting the needs of all children.
Step #5: Argument: The first section of your essay’s body presents your single argument for the thesis. An argumentative or persuasive piece of writing must begin with a debatable thesis or claim. In other words, the thesis must be something that people could reasonably have differing opinions on. If your thesis is something that is generally agreed upon or accepted as fact then there is no reason to try to persuade people.

Step #6: Objection: Here you should respond to the argument given in the previous section and provide an objection to it. Provide what the other side would argue… What is their argument?

Step #7: Response: The third section of your essay’s body should be a response to the objection. Fire back against the proponent’s arguments with research and data. Stay on target of your points. Be succinct and clear in your articulation.
Example of a Response in Emergent Curriculum Position Paper: Stacey (2009) argues that “an emergent classroom supports order as children are engaged” (p. include the page number here).
Step #8: Conclusion: The purpose of conclusion is to support your original thesis or state a new thesis.
Example of a conclusion: An engaged classroom is representative of an emergent classroom.
Step #9: References: The references on your Reference Page need to match your in-text citations throughout your Position paper.
Position Paper Guidelines:
* The position paper must use APA format (double spaced, times new roman and 12-inch font) with no less than 3 references and 3 educational citations.
* Make sure to use your textbook Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8 by Carol Copple and Sue Bredakamp as a reference as you explain 2 examples of Developmentally Appropriate Practice principles #2 and #3 from page 17 through 21 of your Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8 by Carol Copple and Sue Bredakamp, and include the importance of cultural diversity and its implications for early childhood programs.
* Position Paper must 3 to 4 pages.
* Make sure to use subheadings throughout your paper.
* Clearly present a thesis and sets the context.
* Clearly state why the main idea is important and establishes a clear position.
* Make sure that your argument is well stated and persuasive; something people could reasonably have differing opinions on.

An emergent curriculum is a new approach that is based on the view that children learn better when the curriculum experiences account for their needs, strengths, lived realities, and interests. Educators who follow the philosophy rely on observations as a way of coming up with content for curriculum. This supports the development of meaningful learning opportunities that encourage the development of specific skills to a particular age group (Copple & Bredekamp, 2009). The alignment of curriculum material with social realities and individual interest acts as a means of validating all types of diversity and supports passion for learning.
In the emergent curriculum, both the children and adults have initiative and are involved in making decisions.
