State your position on the topic you selected.
My position is that college students should be paid. Since college athletics is making money, the college athletes need to be paid for the amount of work and effort they put in whichever games they are involved in. It makes no sense to make NCAA officials, coaches, and college administrators millions of dollars every year, and the athletes themselves are not making any money. So, my position is that they need to be compensated.
Identify three premises (reasons) from Pros & Cons of controversial issues that support your position, and explain why you selected these specific reasons.
First, college sports help generate billions of dollars every year for the NCAA, corporate sponsors, and the schools. The only people who are not making any money from college sports are the college players themselves.
Second, college students spend more time in training than in their academics. College sports happen to take up as much time as some full-time jobs. Some students spend more than 40 hours in training every week, which is more than they do in their studies. The education they are getting happens to be sub-par.
Third, most students come from poor families, and even though they are highly valued, they never get to benefit from their talents.
The three reasons above help to make my case for the position I took. First, they cover the amount of money that happens to circulate in schools. They cover the amount of time students take in sports and dispute the reason that scholarships happen to act as the payment that students receive. The powers behind NCAA and those making money off college sports are hiding behind some reasons that only seem to protect their interests. The truth is that many college athletes come from poor backgrounds. So, many of them could use some of the money that is being made in college sports.
