Early childhood education is the foundation of learning in every individual's life. In one of his philosophical works, Eric Hoffer asserts that "the central task of education is to implant a will and facility for learning; it should produce not learned but learning people. The truly human society is a learning society, where grandparents, parents, and children are students together" (Kidadl, 2021). I believe this quote sums up the significance of early childhood education for an individual and for society at large. Hoffer portrays education as a means to truly human society. This viewpoint aligns with my belief that education commences at birth and only ends at death. With this perspective, early education is the foundation of the learning process for any individual. It is the stage where a person learns how to learn and institute lessons learned to personal character. Learning is a collaborative process facilitated by communication, and it brings about a sense of belonging.
I have always believed in education as a collaborative process. The learning process in any society cannot happen in isolation. Instead, successful learning is a sort of collage of efforts by parents, educators, learners, and other societal stakeholders. This is especially the case in early childhood education as children navigate how different things work. While the educator and parents play a central role in facilitating learning, learners have to be receptive to their lessons. As an educator, I believe in the harmony of roles played by each stakeholder in education. It is only through the unity of these stakeholders that the notion of a learning society is plausible.
