Among the benefits of teaching bilingual students is that they have good problem-solving skills. These students can interact with different adults in the institution without necessarily waiting for the English class. The more people they interact with, the better their problem-solving skills become (Brisk & Proctor, 2012). Such students also have strong attention control capabilities. This means that they are more attentive in class, enhancing their capabilities to understand the concepts being taught. Teaching such students promotes equity in science instruction, thus enhancing a student's learning capabilities.
The challenges in teaching bilingual students are that most regions in the US have an English-only perspective of the learning institutions.
